The theatre is of the proscenium type with individual seats in a single tier facing the stage. Continuous curved seating rows are arranged on a steep rake to give good sightlines for performance or lecture use. There are aisles at each side.
At the front of the permanent stage there is a flexible zone formed from a single platform lift which gives the options of an extended forestage, orchestra pit, or additional stalls area. The maximum seating capacity of 367 applies when an orchestra pit or forestage is in use.
When at floor level the capacity is 404. There are 4 wheelchair spaces with companion seats in the rear row of the auditorium. The stage is separated from the auditorium by a one-piece framed fabric safety curtain and has full flying with single purchase counterweights.
Scenery delivery from the unloading bay is at stage level via a small scene dock.
The dressing rooms are at stage level and accommodate a maximum of 27 in seven rooms with WCs and showers.
Two rehearsal rooms adjacent to the stage have the theatre show relay and call system installed and can be used as overspill dressing rooms when required.
There is a kitchen facility with washing machine and tumble dryer. Three lighting bridges and two side lighting slots are provided in the auditorium and performers can enter the forestage area at either side.
Additional high level doors at each side of the proscenium can be used for lighting or as “Juliet’ balconies etc. The theatre is equipped and licensed to full public performance standards.
A control suite at the back of the auditorium with a good view of the stage houses performance lighting and sound control with the option of open sound mixing in the central position. There are positions for two follow spots. There is a sound proofed room for translation services and audio described performances. There is an infra-red hearing system with 30 head sets available. A T-loop system is also fitted. Audience entrances are at the rear of the auditorium and open off the central atrium which is the main entrance to the whole building.

The Gardyne Theatre has two large rehearsal studios backstage which are available for hire. These are accessed via stage door and make an ideal venue for theatre and dance rehearsals. There are mirrors and ballet bars (available on request).A good quality Yamaha U3 upright piano is available on request.

Gardyne Studios is a state-of-the art recording facility linked to the Gardyne Theatre.
It offers a wide range of professional services to the music, theatre, education and media industries. This high specification, purpose built and acoustically designed facility; comprises of a spacious (8m x 6m) control room and (8m x 5m) recording area, and is capable of accommodating up to 40 musicians when required, utilising the Gardyne Theatre stage (14m x 10m). The main auditorium seats 404 and can be used for live recordings with full front of house facilities, including licensed bar and catering.
Centred around an Amek analog console and Pro Tools HD 10 System, this Hybrid recording facility is capable of many applications including:
